In Human Studio, you can add just about any type of alternative media to your 3D model to complement and/or guide learners through the 3D visuals and text already presented. (See our other articles for instructions on how to add 2D images or audio).

As with 2D images, complementary videos can be embedded into the labels and/or chapter descriptions in your 3D model or tour. Unlike 2D images, however, uploading videos is a two-step process due to their larger file size. See below for step-by-step instructions, as well as upload requirements.

Upload requirements

To ensure a smooth video upload experience and optimal performance, review the following requirements before you get started. Files that exceed these limits will trigger an error message during upload.

  • Supported file formats: .mp4, .wmv, .mov, .m4v, .webm, .mpg, .mpeg, .mpe, .m4p, .avi, .flv
  • File upload limits:
    • Labels: One (1) per label
    • Chapter descriptions: Three (3) per chapter
  • File size limits: 2 GB per video

Add a video to a label

Adding a video to a label is a two-step process:

  1. Upload a video file to your label
  2. Wait for your video to finish processing

Step 1: Upload a video file to your label

  1. If you have not already, open your model in Human Studio.
  2. Add a label to the model if one does not already exist.
  3. Select the label by clicking on the label itself or by selecting it in the Labels panel on the right side of the page.
  4. Identify a video file you would like to add to the label and ensure it meets the upload requirements listed above.
  5. In the Labels panel, scroll down to the Video block, and drag and drop your file onto it. Alternatively, click inside the block and use the browse function to locate and select the file from your File Explorer or Finder.

Note: Again, only one (1) video can be added to each label.

  6. (Optional) In the Video Caption field, add a caption that will appear beneath your video in the information panel.
  7. Wait until you see a "Processing Video" message where you just uploaded your file, which means your video has successfully uploaded and is being processed.

Warning: Do not navigate away from the Labels panel until this message appears, or your upload will fail. If the upload fails, you will see one of an error message and will need to try again.

  8. (Optional) Repeat step 3-7 to add videos to other labels. To delete or replace any video, click the X in the upper-right corner of the thumbnail in the Video block and repeat steps 5-7 above.

Tip: To minimize cognitive overload, we recommend limiting each chapter to no more than five (5) labels.

  9. Click Save in the lower-right corner of the page to save your changes.

Step 2: Wait for your video to finish processing

After you have uploaded your video, you will need to wait for it to be processed before it can be streamed in the app or your published model.

While processing, your label will show the same "Processing Video" message mentioned in step 6 above. During this time you can feel free to make other changes to your model, exit Studio, or take other actions in the app.

Note: Processing time varies based on file format and size. Shorter videos typically process faster.

Once your video has successfully processed, you will have access to the following features within your uploaded video:

Video controls Pause/play, replay, jump to any time in video using scrubber
Audio controls Mute/Unmute, adjust audio volume
Fullscreen mode Enter Fullscreen, exit Fullscreen
Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode Enter PiP mode, move PiP window, enlarge PiP window, Exit PiP mode

Note:

  1. Picture-in-Picture (PiP) functionality may not be supported by all browsers. If the PiP button is not clickable or does not respond, try using a different browser.
  2. The initial placement of the PiP window is managed by your browser or device's operating system, not BioDigital. When launching PiP for the first time, the window may appear anywhere on your screen, including outside the boundaries of the Human Viewer or BioDigital Human app. To reposition it, click and drag the window to your desired location.
