February 2020: Even more toolbar and chapter pagination updates in the Viewer

Easier-to-access chapter list

By default, the chapter list is now accessible from the chapter controls menu at all Viewer sizes. When a learner clicks on the chapter number (e.g., 1 / 4), the chapter list will appear directly above the toolbar in a pop-up menu.

While the previous update helped learners recognize that they were viewing a tour and keep track of their progress, this update makes it easier for them to 1) quickly identify all of the chapters available in a tour and 2) jump to a different chapter by name – particularly at smaller Viewer sizes.

Previously, when the Viewer was embedded or accessed at smaller sizes (≤960px wide), the learner had to open the information panel to see the chapter list. Now, the chapter list is accessible with a simple click or tap, and a larger portion of the list is visible on screen.

Note: If you previously opted in to the chapter list (and therefore have ui-chapter-list=true in your BioDigital URLs), the chapter list will no longer appear in the information panel at smaller sizes.

Large (≥961px wide)

While the chapter list is now always accessible from the chapter controls menu, you still have the option of enabling the chapter list in the information panel when the Viewer is embedded or accessed at larger sizes (≥961px wide).

To enable the chapter list in the information  panel for new models, make sure you select  Chapter List  under  Display Options  when you  publish your model , or add the URL parameter  &ui-chapter-list=true to your existing BioDigital URL(s).

Note: If you previously opted in to the chapter list (and therefore have ui-chapter-list=true in your BioDigital URLs), the chapter list will still appear in the information panel at larger sizes.

New title-only experience for chapters without a description

If a chapter in a tour has a title but no description, the chapter title will now appear in one of two places:

  1. Centered within the information panel at the bottom of the Viewer (at smaller sizes)
  2. In a standalone text panel in the upper-left corner of the Viewer (at larger sizes)

Center-aligned chapter titles for better visibility

At smaller sizes, the chapter title is now center-aligned within the information panel to make it easier for learners to see it and identify it as a title (as opposed to a caption).
