Welcome to the BioDigital Human!
This guide will help you set up your team account and begin discovering, customizing, and publishing interactive 3D views of human anatomy, physiology, health conditions, and treatments. Start by watching our platform overview video, and then follow the step-by-step instructions below to begin using key features with your team.
Platform overview
If you are new to the BioDigital Human, we recommend starting with the Complete Guide to the BioDigital Human below. This 13-minute video provides a comprehensive introduction to the platform and equips you with the foundational knowledge you need to set your team up for success.
Tip: If your time is limited, start with the video below and come back to the rest of the guide when your schedule allows.
Step 1: Customize your team's workspace
Start by personalizing your team’s workspace to streamline collaboration and content curation.
First, upload your organization's logo in Team Settings to give My Library a personal touch.
Next, consider adding collections—custom folders in the Team section of My Library. These help your team organize and quickly locate saved 3D models.
Your collection names should align with and support your team's content curation process. Common collection themes include:
- Department
- Body system
- Course or unit
- Instructor
- Product or project
You can return to this step at any time; collections can be added or updated as your team's needs evolve.
To create a new collection, click the Add a New Collection... icon next to "Team" in the left-hand menu. (Step-by-steps instructions are also available in Add a new collection to My Library.)
New collections appear at the bottom of your team's collection list under Team: All Models, but they can be reordered or moved as needed.
Note: Only team Administrators can upload logos and manage collections. If you need Administrator access, contact the sales specialist who set up your account or reach out to our Customer Experience team.
Step 2: Invite team members
Once your workspace is configured, you can start inviting collaborators.
You can invite members to your team from multiple locations in the app:
- The top navigation menu (on pages such as Home, Explore, My Library, Account, Team, and Settings)
- The Team page (accessed via the profile icon in the top navigation menu)
- The My Library page (under your uploaded team logo; this option only appears after a logo has been added)
Members can be assigned one of three roles when invited: Administrator, Creator, or Viewer. The Creator role is well suited to most users and situations, but we recommend reviewing this article for more details on roles and permissions.
Note: If you do not assign a role when inviting a new member, they will be assigned your team's default role. However, you can change a team member's role—or your team's default member role—at any time.
Step 3: Explore BioDigital's 3D model library
Browse our ever-expanding 3D model library to find models that align with your educational or training goals.
Start with one of the curated collections on the homepage—such as What’s New, Expert Collections, or Featured—or use the Explore tab in the top navigation menu to jump to a category.
Once you are on the Explore page, you can:
- Browse by category and sub-category
- Search by topic or keyword
- Filter results by model type, level of detail, or tags
Step 4: Save 3D models to My Library
As you discover models you are interested in, save them to My Library for easy access, customization, and sharing later.
To save a model:
- Hover over the model's tile in Explore and click Save to My Library.
- Set your model’s permission settings and, if applicable, the appropriate collection(s).
- Click Save.
Tip: You can also save a model from the Quick View window, in the model viewer, or while editing it in Studio. Learn more in Save a model to My Library.
Step 5 (Optional): Customize your models in Human Studio
If you would like to tailor a model for a specific audience or purpose, open it in Human Studio.
In Studio, you can:
- Highlight key structures with paint colors and effects
- Add interactive labels to any structure
- Upload complementary media such as images, videos, and GIFs
- Build multi-step virtual tours
- Create interactive quizzes
You can also edit existing tours, quizzes, and their components to better fit your needs.
To get started, look for the Customize in Studio button on the model's tile, in Quick View, or when viewing the model. You can also open Studio from the top navigation menu and select a model from there.
Step 6: Publish your 3D models
When your models are ready to share, you can publish them as an embed code or direct link to insert into a website, LMS, app, or virtually any digital resource.
